Rörbäck Forest Retreat

In this holiday home, nestled in the forest of Halland County, nature sets the pace. The large windows let the natural light in, as an invitation to contemplate the surrounding beauty. In a serene atmosphere, the welcoming interior has been designed to highlight the simple joys of life : relaxing with a good book, gathering round a delicious meal and enjoying inspiring conversations.

It all started when the owners bought the land – including the farm – for their forest property. At that time, Rörbäck had been uninhabited for a couple of decades. Holding on their vision of the perfect holiday house, they’ve created, in collaboration with GIPP Arkitektur, a beautiful and authentic place that feels like home, away from home.

Consisting of a contemporary manor house and a barn, which replaced former structures, as well as three older buildings from the 1700’s and 1800’s, Rörbäck Forest Retreat is conceived to dialogue with its natural environment. The new wooden volumes create, together with the historic masonry, a harmonious constellation. Apart from the concrete floors, they are built with Swedish wood meant to last and age beautifully over time, giving even more character to the place.

Paying tribute to Scandinavian craftsmanship, the owner has dressed the interior with refined furniture pieces made of high-quality natural materials. Keeping traces of their former lives, the foundation stones from the old buildings have been reused as stairs and stepping stones, in order to forge ties between generations.

In the manor house, which can accommodate up to 8 people, the living room and the kitchen with a fireplace and a dining area, offer a cosy setting to spend time together, while the adjoining greenhouse allows an immersion in the natural surroundings. For large families and tribes, the barn can welcome additional guests.

Down by the creek, the former wash house has been turned into a sauna. Exploring the lush forest, strolling along the nearby lake and the many hiking trails, or relaxing by the pool overlooking the meadow – nature is a cherished companion and a source of serenity at Rörbäck Forest Retreat.
